Monday 12th May 2014 – Hadrians Wall

Fine weather greeted the walkers today; 17 of them plus a dog. Members from the local branches and all sectors. Well done to all.

A casual stroll into Newcastle on the first leg, with lunch at Starbucks. No alcohol – I don’t think the people in Newcastle drink alcohol anyway…

After a hearty lunch we set off on the final leg to Segendunum with a fairly drawn out line of walkers. The walking is a reflection of the region over the last few years with the Swan Hunter Ship yard redundant and desolate almost at the end of the walk.

Weather held out for the whole day; the first time I can remember with Hadrian.

An excellent day with many thanks to Kevin Morrow for his input. Well done to all who took part

In the car on the way to Skipton for tomorrows’ walk on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
